Artist Mahalaxmi Karn lives in a village near the city of Madhubani in India's northeastern Bihar province. She often creates artworks inspired by the daily life and culture of the environment in which she lives. This charming drawing of a mother accompanying her daughter to school reflects the increasing access that girls and women have to education and employment outside the home in some parts of rural India.
