Label
Etel Adnan was a writer, poet and visual artist who lived variously in Lebanon, France and the United States over the course of her long life. A committed feminist and advocate for modern Arab culture, Adnan came out publicly as a lesbian in 1972 and lived the rest of her life with her partner Simone Fattal, who is also an artist. This sensitively rendered line drawing depicting a vase of flowers was inspired by Adnan’s interest in the graphic qualities of traditional Islamic calligraphy and illuminated manuscripts.
