LabelClarence Holbrook Carter was a leading member of the 20th century Cleveland School of artists. He began his career as a Regionalist painter of landscapes and figures, but after World War Two his artwork became increasingly surreal and eventually abstract. This image of overlapping ovoid shapes was inspired by traditional Asian mandala paintings, which function as aids to meditation in certain schools of Buddhism. Carter printed this mandala in a range of colors including red, blue, green, purple, orange and a combination of red and green.
