LabelChitra Ganesh is a queer feminist artist and activist. The daughter of immigrants from India, Ganesh was raised in Brooklyn, NY and educated at Brown and Columbia Universities. She originally planned to pursue a career as a middle and high school teacher, but after her mother died unexpectedly in 1998, Ganesh realized that life is short and decided to become an artist. She takes inspiration for her art from various sources, including Indian comic books, Bollywood movies, Japanese anime, and American science fiction literature. Much of her work has a futuristic, sometimes almost mythic quality that alludes to other worlds and alternate realities. This print, for example, depicts a young, tattooed South Asian woman who seems to be experiencing visions of possible future events.
