This double-sided crucifix would have been mounted on a staff and used to lead processions during church services and religious festivals. The front of the cross bears an image of the crucified Christ in the center, surrounded by angels above and below, and by the Virgin Mary and an apostle to the left and right. The reverse of the cross bears an image of a bishop surrounded by symbols of the four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
