Hope alumni Dick and Ruth Nieusma served as missionaries in Korea from the 1960s to the early 80s. This celadon vase by master potter Cho Ki-jung was commissioned for them as a gift at the end of their mission. The large four-word inscription written in hangul script on the side of the vase is taken from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 28, verses 18-20: And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
