The term celadon derives from the name of a character in an 18th-century French play who wore a green cape. When European scholars first began classifying Asian ceramics, they applied the name celadon to a large family of green-glazed stonewares and porcelains produced in China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand from the 11th century onward. This celadon vase was produced by the contemporary Korean master potter, Kim Jong-ho.
