Kondo Hiroshi was the second son of Living National Treasure ceramic artist Kondo Yuzo. Like his father, Kondo Hiroshi excelled at decorating porcelain dishes and vessels with underglaze blue designs. The landscape image on this dish with rocky elements in the foreground and background separated by an expanse of water recalls compositions associated with the Nanga school of traditional Japanese painting.
