LabelIkegami Shuho was born into a prosperous, highly cultured merchant family and as a young man was able to train with artists from several different painting schools. Shuho is best known for his quasi-naturalistic depictions of plants, animals and landscapes. Deer have been a popular subject among Japanese artists for centuries. They are admired as graceful forest creatures and are also considered symbols of prosperity and good fortune.
