After graduating from Hope, Kanamori went on to study opera at the Julliard School of Music. After tying for first place in the Metropolitan Opera national auditions, Kanamori was offered a contract by the Stadtische Buhnen Essen in Germany. Between 1969 and 1981 she appeared in more than 400 opera performances in Europe.
