Originally trained as a printmaker, Qiu Zhijie made his name as one of China’s first wave of fine art photographers. Qiu’s Tattoo Series explores issues of individual identity and social fragmentation in contemporary China. The photographs in the series are all self-portraits of the artist posed against a wall with a painting superimposed on both his body and the wall. The design of this image features a puzzle pattern, suggesting that our identities are composed of many different elements.
