Manuel Felguerez first studied art at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. Unhappy with the school’s conservative curriculum, Felguerez dropped out after a few months and moved to Paris to continue his studies. After spending much of the 1950s in France, he returned to Mexico in 1959 to take a teaching position in Mexico City. Felguerez was an early proponent of abstract art in Mexico and promoted both Abstract Expressionism and Geometric Abstraction. His paintings, prints and sculptures quickly attracted the attention of art patrons and critics, and he became a leading figure in Mexico’s artistic avant-garde. This print belongs to a series of artworks Felguerez created in the early 1970s in which he used computer algorithms to help generate the designs.
