LabelIn the novel, Yaji and Kita arrive in the town of Kanbara at the same time as the entourage of a high-ranking samurai. In all the bustle and confusion, Kita enters the inn where the samurai is staying and, pretending to be a member of the entourage, manages to wolf down a free meal. Before leaving the inn, Kita wraps up a portion of boiled rice for Yaji who is waiting outside. Yaji eats the rice but then notices that the wrapper Kita used for the rice is a soiled loincloth and he suddenly feels sick.
