This jar is cleverly designed to resemble Mount Fuji rising above a sea of waves. The artist Shofu Katei was active in the city of Kyoto during the late Meiji and Taisho periods. He earned a national reputation for his innovative glazes and dynamic designs and in 1915 was awarded a prize in a national arts competition.
