Jose Guadalupe Posada was a Mexican printmaker best known for his sharp political satire and biting social commentary. He is especially famous for his calavera images, in which he uses skeletons to poke fun at both historical and contemporary Mexican culture. This print depicts a group of skeletons dressed as rural peasants enjoying a dance party, oblivious to the injustices and inequalities of Mexican society.
