LabelLa Catrina is one of Jose Guadalupe Posada's most recognized artworks. The image of a skeleton wearing a fringed and feather-decorated hat was meant to lampoon the vanities and pretensions of Mexico's upper classes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although Posada is now regarded as an important and influential artist, he struggled to find success during his own lifetime and died in poverty.
