Yong Soon Min is a professor of art at the University of California, Irvine. Much of her work explores issues related to gender, ethnicity and culture. This print reflects Min’s attempts to understand the impact of the Korean War on her family and her own connection to her Korean heritage. Min was born near Seoul in 1953. Her father served in the South Korean army and her mother worked on at a coffee shop on a US Army base. After her family moved to the United States in 1960, Min worked hard to become an American, creating a bi-cultural identity that has been a source of both confusion and inspiration throughout her life.
