From 1947 to 1967, Shin Kuno taught design at Nagoya Industrial Art Senior High School. He was also a member of the Shin Seisaku Kyokai, a group of painters, sculptors and architects who came together in 1951 around their shared interests in absorbing new artistic currents from Europe and America. In the late 1960s, Kuno began creating abstract images made of cut steel and wood panels. Combining elements of both painting and sculpture, Kuno’s steel work pieces were exhibited in Japan, Europe, America and Australia during the 1960s and 70s.
