LabelArtist Fujimoto Yoshimichi specialized in stoneware and porcelain ceramics decorated with nature motifs. He skillfully combined layers of colored enamels to create images that resemble traditional Japanese brush paintings. The kingfisher bird on this dish resembles a design Fujimoto used on a 230-piece dinner service created for and used by the Showa Emperor in 1976. Fujimoto ranked among the most important Japanese porcelain artists of the 20th century and was designated as a Living National Treasure in 1986.
