Massachusetts-based artist Michael Boroniec plays with solid and negative space by cutting conventional ceramic vessel forms into spirals. The spirals add kinetic energy to the pieces, transforming them from utilitarian objects into sculptural works of art. The form and glaze of this vase are based on Chinese prototypes of the 13th and 14th centuries.
