LabelIn Christian theology, the term "original sin" refers to Adam and Eve's consumption of fruit from the tree of knowledge that had been forbidden to them by God. This act of disobedience led to their expulsion from the Garden of Eden and is the root of all subsequent human sin. According to artist Louise Zjiawin Francke, the tragedy of the original sin is not only that it led to humankind's estrangement from God, but that it also led to our estrangement from the natural world. Taking better care of and repairing the damage we have done to the natural environment is thus one way to help atone for the original sin of humanity.
