James Rosati was a New York-based sculptor associated with the abstract expressionist art movement. In addition to his studio practice, Rosati held teaching positions at several academic institutions including the Pratt Institute, Brandeis University and Yale University, where he served as Professor of Sculpture from 1960 to 1973. He is best known for abstract sculptures featuring dynamic arrangements of geometric forms. This carefully composed steel sculpture helps us understand why the New York Times critic Hilton Kramer once wrote of Rosati: β€œHe is a superlative craftsman, trained in the patient methods of the old sculpture, and is possessed of a very keen, elegant, intelligent sensibility, at once very poetic and very analytical.”
