LabelAfter Ghana gained independence from Great Britain in 1957, many Ghanaian artists expressed pride in their country and its people by depicting scenes of everyday life. The female market vendor portrayed in this drawing appears tired and troubled by the daily struggle to survive. Emmanuel Krotei Tetteh studied art at Odorgonno Secondary School and the University of Ghana. He won several awards in Ghanaian national art competitions in the late 1960s and his work was included in multiple exhibitions within Ghana and overseas during the 1970s.
