LabelZacheus Olowonubi Oloruntuba was born into a Yoruba chiefly family and was recognized from a young age as a mystic and healer. He joined the Osogbo Movement in the mid-1960s and soon began producing elaborately patterned paintings and drawings based on his own dreams and visions. In 1971, Oloruntoba met the African American jazz musician Ornette Coleman, who helped Oloruntoba come to the United States and develop a new client base here. Oloruntoba eventually returned to Nigeria, but he continued to exhibit his art regularly in venues around Africa, the United States and Europe until shortly before his death in 2014.
