This jar is a superb example of a Korean folk art. The body of the jar was thrown on a wheel before being molded into its faceted shape. Inclusions and small firing flaws show through the iron-oxide glaze giving the jar a singular appearance. Although made by unknown artisans, jars like this have become much admired by Korean, Japanese and Western connoisseurs and serve as models for folk-inspired ceramists even today.
