The pile rugs of Baluchistan are famous for their dark palettes, which often feature deep reds, blues, and browns. These dark colors are partly a function of the traditional dye materials that were available to weavers in this region, but they also reflect a deliberate aesthetic choice. While the colors of the weavings may appear somewhat murky under artificial light, they stand out with bold intensity in the strong, natural sunlight that bathes the deserts and mountains of Baluchistan.
