The nearly pristine condition of this salt bag suggests that it was never used in a nomadic encampment.  Rather, it is more likely to have been made either as a dowry item or as a commercial product intended for the marketplace. It is ironic that as hardening national borders during the second half of the 20th century made it more difficult for Baluchistan nomads and semi-nomads to maintain their traditional way of life, people outside of Baluchistan began to romanticize that way of life and sought to collect the textiles that reflect it.
