LabelJoyce Kozloff was a pioneering figure in the feminist-influenced Pattern and Decoration movement of the mid-1970s. The movement drew inspiration from a wide range of decorative art traditions-especially those practiced by women-and deliberately strove to challenge the hierarchies and values of the male-dominated, Euro-American contemporary art world of that time. This print references ornamental patterns found in traditional Islamic textiles, ceramics and manuscript illustrations. Kozloff created the design in 1977 and printed it with assistance from master printer Judith Solodkin at Solo Press in New York City.
