LabelEbenezer Akinola earned his BFA in painting from the University of Benin in 1989. After spending several years in the United States, Akinola returned to his hometown of Ibadan where he currently maintains a full-time studio practice. Akinola’s work is primarily figurative and his style ranges from realistic to expressionistic. This painting depicting three Yoruba women in traditional dress comes from a period in which Akinola experimented with a Cubist-like approach to imagery, breaking it down into geometric shapes and flat areas of color.
